EM Video Analysis Systems

AI Innovation for Sustainable Fisheries Development

A digital transformation (DX) and AI transformation (AX) based EM video analysis platform for distant-water vessels

In 2020, Suncom became the first company in Korea to collaborate with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Korea), distant-water fishing companies, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to develop an AI video analysis platform through a series of pilot projects introducing EM systems.

Electronic Monitoring (EM) Analysis System for Distant-Water Vessels

We aim to lead the development of Korean-style Electronic Monitoring (K-EM) technology with our proprietary innovations.

  • Frame extraction and labeling tailored to Korea’s distant-water fishing sectors and target species
  • Development of optimized AI models for fisheries management using diverse model training
  • Dataset construction for quota-targeted species
  • AI-powered EM video analysis platform to prevent the leakage of Korea’s distant-water fishing video data overseas

Key Features

Video Analysis

Video analysis is a technology that identifies species and measures body length and height based on footage recorded during fishing operations. The process is automated using pre-trained data, allowing results to be obtained quickly and accurately without manual verification.

Analysis Verification

To improve the reliability of video analysis results, experts manually annotate the footage, reviewing and supplementing the analysis. These additional annotations are compared with the automated analysis results. By cross verifying both datasets, overall analysis accuracy is enhanced.

Device Monitoring

The operational status of EM (Electronic Monitoring) devices recording in real time at fishing sites can be checked using a monitoring program. This program ensures that video is being properly recorded and also allows remote control of the recording devices if needed.

Snapshot Transmission

When a specific event occurs during fishing operations, a snapshot image capturing that moment is automatically transmitted to the land-based system. This enables real-time monitoring of fishing activities and rapid detection of anomalies or key operations.

GPS Tracking

GPS data is stored along with EM video and captured images, allowing a visual display of the vessel’s movement path (track). This provides a clear view of fishing positions and routes.
